About Sunblock

Independent · Made in London · iPhone

In one paragraph.

Sunblock is a holiday planning app for people in the UK whose time off is already decided. You enter the weeks you can take, the airport you'd fly from and what you'd pay. The app ranks warm destinations with direct flights for those exact dates, cheapest first, shows the temperature you can expect, and keeps watching the fares so you hear when one drops.

Why it exists

Every flight search starts by asking where you want to go. For a lot of UK households that's the wrong first question. The school holidays are fixed. The week off work is booked. What people actually want to know is: given these dates, where's warm, is there a direct flight, and what does it cost?

Answering that today means opening a dozen tabs, one per destination, and doing the comparison yourself. Sunblock does the comparison once, for every warm place served directly from your airport, and hands you a ranked list.

How it works, briefly

How Sunblock makes money

Sunblock is free to use. It earns money in two ways, and both are visible in the app.

Affiliate commission

When you tap through to book a flight or holiday, you leave Sunblock and complete the booking with the airline, agent or operator. If you do book, Sunblock may receive a commission from them. You pay the same price as you would going direct.

Every link that can earn commission is marked with an AD label in the app, following Advertising Standards Authority and Competition and Markets Authority guidance on affiliate marketing. Rankings are by price and temperature only. Commission rates play no part in what is shown or in what order.

Sunblock currently works with flight affiliate networks and is applying to work with UK package holiday operators through their affiliate programmes. Partners are listed in the privacy policy.

Sunblock+

An optional subscription, handled entirely by Apple, unlocks unlimited blocks and alerts for people who plan a whole year at once. Everything needed to answer "where's warm and cheap in my time off" is free.
